Amelia Board of Supervisors


The Board of Supervisors is the governing body of the county. The five member board is elected for four-year terms. Board members are elected from five single member districts and they serve staggered terms. Elections are held as a part of the Virginia general election in November of odd numbered years. Amelia County Administrator


The County Administrator serves at the pleasure of the Amelia County Board of Supervisors. The County Administrator is the chief executive officer of the County, and all executive responsibilities and powers are assigned to and vested in him. Amelia Circuit Court

Amelia Commissioner of Revenue


The Commissioner of the Revenue is responsible for assessing the real estate tax, tangible personal property tax, business tangible personal property tax, machinery and tools tax, business license tax, short-term rental tax, transient occupancy tax, and public service corporation tax. The Commissioner also issues county business licenses, processes and prepares state income taxes and administers the real estate tax relief for the elderly/disabled and veteran programs as well as the Land Use program. Amelia County Commonwealth Attorney


The Commonwealth's Attorney represents the people of Virginia in prosecuting criminal cases. The position is similar to that of the "District Attorney" in many other states. The Commonwealth's Attorney, elected by the people to a four year term, typically appoints one or more assistants to handle cases under his or her supervision. Amelia County Sheriff

Amelia County Treasurer


The Treasurer is the chief financial officer for Amelia County and is responsible for collecting taxes local fees and making payments on behalf of the local government. The Treasurer is responsible for every form of revenue and also manages the investment of local funds and maintains records of local finances. Amelia County Social Services


The Amelia County Department of Social Services is a public agency serving the citizens of Amelia County. Our mission is to help our eligible customers meet basic needs through financial assistance, promote self-sufficiency in our customers through employment-related services, and help protect children and vulnerable adults through services designed to reduce the risk of abuse and neglect. Amelia County Voter Registration


The Constitution of Virginia requires that you be registered in the precinct in which you live to be qualified to vote. For information on registering to vote, change of name or address, absentee voting or polling place locations, please call or come by the office during business hours. Virginia Cooperative Extension


The Amelia County Extension Office, a cooperative venture between the Federal Government, the Commonwealth of Virginia and Amelia County, provides a wide variety of programs and services to the youth and adults of Amelia County. Working in cooperation with neighboring County Offices the Extension Office also provides much needed and vitally important professional resources to the entire Heartland Region.
