The American fire service has done an exceptional job of developing its officers and leaders with excellent training in the areas of fire ground attack, and other topics. However, today's volunteer fire departments have become a complex business requiring future leaders and officers to blend knowledge base of fire ground operations and also an equal blend of knowledge related to long-range planning, people and personnel management, and conflict resolution. This Emerging Leaders program introduces attendees, who are the "future of the fire service", to information related to leadership, professional conduct, ethics, core values, social media, personnel management, long-range planning, and other critical topics. This entertaining and interactive session is a must-have for any fire service leader.
Michael P. Dallessandro is a 30+ year life member of the Grand Island Fire Company Inc., located in Erie County, NY and an active member of the North Greece Fire District in Monroe County, NY. He is a respected speaker and trainer who routinely presents at FDIC, Firehouse Expo, the Virginia Fire & Rescue Conference, and the Fire District's Association of the State of New York. He has developed the RESPONDSMART safe apparatus driver program and the Volunteer and Combination Fire Department Leadership and Professional Conduct Academy. He has written articles for various publications including Fire Engineering, Carolina Fire Rescue Journal, and 1st Responder News. Mike has retired from the public school district management. He now consults regularly for fire departments and municipalities on management and personnel matters, conducting fire department reviews and studies, and long-range planning.
